COMPORT Pro Installation Guide | AMR Performance
Step-by-step installation and setup for COMPORT Pro: bring Windows up to date, turn off Real-Time Protection, download the software from your AMR account, install it, then connect and flash your ECU, TCU or CPC.
Before you start
Please make sure you have a battery booster connected directly to your vehicle's battery and set on HIGH during flashing.
System requirements
- Windows-based PC, laptop, or tablet
- Windows 8.1, 10, or 11 (Windows ARM is not supported)
- MAC users must install Boot Camp for macOS compatibility
- Stable WiFi connection (50+ Mbps recommended)
- Battery booster / charger connected to vehicle battery
- USB cable and COMPORT Pro dongle
Step 1 — Check Windows updates
Before installing the COMPORT Pro software, ensure your Windows operating system is fully up to date. Running the software on an outdated system may cause connection issues or failed flashing attempts.
- Open the Windows Search Bar and type Windows Update
- Click "Check for updates" and install all available updates
- Restart your computer when prompted
- Repeat this process until no additional updates are available
Step 2 — Disable Windows real-time Defender
Windows Defender may interfere with the COMPORT Pro software. Real-Time Protection must be disabled before installation and remain off while using the software. Reactivating Real-Time Protection while the software is installed may require a complete reinstallation.
- Open the Windows Search Bar and type Windows Security
- Select "Virus & Threat Protection"
- Click "Manage Settings"
- Toggle "Real-Time Protection" to OFF
- Windows 11 users
- You must first disable S Mode before you can turn off Real-Time Defender. Go to Settings > System > Activation > Switch out of S Mode.
- McAfee users
- If you have McAfee Antivirus installed, you must also disable Real Time Scanning within the McAfee application.
Step 3 — Get your software
The fastest way to get COMPORT Pro is from your AMR account: log in at amrperformance.com with your registered email, open Software Downloads from your account menu, and download COMPORT Pro to your computer.
If you do not see it in your account yet, you can also request activation by emailing sales@amrperformance.com with the subject line "I RECEIVED MY COMPORT PRO TUNING SUITE". Include your order number, the vehicle year, make and model, and the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Allow 12-24 hours for a response with your download link and credentials.
Step 4 — Install the software
- Download the software file to your computer
- Right-click the downloaded file and select "Extract All" or "Extract Here"
- Open the extracted folder and run the .exe installer
- Follow the installation prompts to complete the setup
- A desktop icon labeled "COMPORT PRO" will appear when installation is complete
Do not move or rename the installation folder after extraction. The software references internal file paths that must remain intact.
Step 5 — Launch and connect
Before launching COMPORT Pro, check that all of the following are true:
- Battery charger connected to vehicle battery (set on HIGH)
- Stable WiFi connection (cell phone hotspot recommended, 50+ Mbps)
- USB cable connected: PC to dongle to vehicle OBD port
- Vehicle ignition turned ON (engine off)
- Windows Real-Time Protection disabled
- Double-click the COMPORT PRO desktop icon
- The software may prompt you to install an update — select "Update" to install the latest version
- After updating, log in using your registered email address
- Follow the on-screen instructions to begin reading or flashing your vehicle
Troubleshooting
- Software will not launch or crashes on startup
- Ensure Real-Time Protection is OFF and all Windows updates are installed. Try running the .exe as Administrator (right-click, Run as administrator).
- Dongle not detected
- Try a different USB port. Avoid USB hubs — connect directly to the computer. Ensure the dongle LED is illuminated when connected.
- Connection drops during flashing
- Verify your WiFi signal strength (50+ Mbps). A mobile hotspot is more reliable than public WiFi. Ensure the battery charger is connected and set on HIGH.
- Update fails to install
- Close the software completely, ensure your internet connection is stable, and relaunch. If the issue persists, contact sales@amrperformance.com.
