COMPORT Pro Versa Edition Installation Guide | AMR Performance
Install and set up COMPORT PRO Versa Edition — the next-generation AMR Performance ECU / TCU / CPC flashing and diagnostics application for Mercedes-Benz, Aston Martin, Audi, Ford and Subaru. Runs on Windows (x64 and ARM64) and macOS, and updates itself in place.
Before you start
A stable 12 V power source (battery charger / booster) on the vehicle is mandatory while flashing. A voltage drop mid-flash can leave a control unit in an incomplete state.
Overview
COMPORT PRO Versa connects to your vehicle through a supported pass-thru cable and lets you read battery voltage, scan and clear fault codes, monitor and log live data, flash AMR-supplied tunes, and — where your account is enabled — run dealer-style Custom Features such as Dyno Mode and the Service-indicator reset.
Versa is a self-contained application — there is no separate framework to install. The app is licensed to your account; you must be an active AMR customer and connect to the specific vehicle (VIN) your account is authorized for.
System requirements
| Item | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit x64 or ARM64), or macOS |
| Privileges | Administrator rights (the app installs and runs elevated) |
| Disk space | About 250 MB free |
| USB | One free USB-A port for the pass-thru cable |
| Internet | Required for activation, downloading tunes, and updates |
| Power | A stable battery charger / power supply on the vehicle during flashing |
What you'll need
- Your AMR account email (the address your license is registered to)
- A supported pass-thru cable (Tactrix OpenPort 2.0)
- The vehicle the tune is purchased for, with the key/ignition accessible
- A battery charger or stable power supply
Step 1 — Get the software
- Log in at amrperformance.com with your registered email.
- Open Software Downloads from your account menu.
- Download COMPORT PRO Versa to your computer.
The download appears once your purchase is on file. If it is missing, contact sales@amrperformance.com with your order number, vehicle, and VIN.
Step 2 — Install COMPORT PRO Versa
- Run the downloaded installer (comport-pro-versa-installer.exe).
- If Windows SmartScreen appears, choose More info, then Run anyway.
- Accept the prompts and let the installer finish — it creates a Start-menu / desktop shortcut.
- Launch the app. When the User Account Control (UAC) prompt appears, click Yes — the app must run as administrator to talk to the device.
Because the app runs elevated, you cannot drag-and-drop files onto its window. Use the in-app file picker buttons instead.
Step 3 — Install the device driver
The pass-thru cable needs a driver so the app can communicate with it — COMPORT PRO Versa handles this for you.
- Plug the OpenPort 2.0 into a USB port (you don't need to be plugged into the car yet).
- In the connection / setup area of the app, choose Install Driver if prompted.
- The app installs the correct driver and confirms when the device shows Ready.
- x64 (Intel / AMD)
- The app installs the WinUSB driver automatically.
- ARM64 (Snapdragon / Windows-on-ARM)
- the cable is detected automatically as a serial (COM) device using Microsoft's built-in driver — nothing to install. Just plug it in.
- Device not appearing
- Unplug it, wait a few seconds, and plug it directly into a different USB port on the computer (avoid hubs).
Step 4 — First launch and activation
- On first launch, enter the email address registered to your AMR account.
- Stay online — the app verifies your license with AMR's server.
- Once verified, your account shows as active and the main screen unlocks.
Your license is tied to your account and authorized vehicle. If the app reports that your account is not active or not authorized for the connected vehicle, contact AMR support before continuing.
Step 5 — Connecting to your vehicle
- OpenPort 2.0 connected: PC to cable to vehicle OBD-II port
- Battery charger / stable power supply connected
- Ignition ON / RUN (engine off) — key position II, or start button without brake
- Press Connect in the app — it establishes communication and reads battery voltage.
- Confirm the displayed voltage looks correct (roughly 12-14 V). A healthy reading means the cable and vehicle link are good.
Reading data and diagnostics
- Check Fault Codes (DTCs) — scan the engine ECU, transmission (TCU) and CPC for stored codes.
- Clear Fault Codes — erase stored codes across the modules after a repair.
- Live Data Monitor — view and record real-time sensor values (boost, throttle, RPM, temps, fuel pressure, and more).
- Refresh List — if AMR adds a new tune to your account while you are connected, click Refresh List next to the tune drop-down to pull it in without disconnecting.
Flashing a tune
Before you start: battery charger connected, ignition ON, other electrical loads off (climate, lights, audio), and do not touch the key or disconnect the cable until the flash completes.
- Connect to the vehicle and confirm a good voltage reading.
- Select the tune assigned to your account for this vehicle.
- Follow the on-screen prompts exactly — the app may ask you to cycle the ignition or wait at certain points.
- Let the progress bar run to completion. Do not unplug, close the app, or sleep the computer.
- When finished, the app confirms success and may prompt a final ignition cycle. Turn the ignition off, wait, then start the vehicle.
- If a flash is interrupted
- Don't panic and don't disconnect. Keep the charger on, reconnect in the app, and re-run the flash — it is designed to recover and re-send the data. Contact AMR support if it does not recover.
Custom Features (Mercedes-Benz)
Select Mercedes-Benz accounts have access to dealer-style Custom Features. When enabled, a Custom Features button appears after you connect.
- Dyno Mode
- Puts the car into rolling-road mode and disables traction control so the driven wheels spin freely. Always turn it OFF when done. On 4MATIC cars only single-axle (rear-wheel) rollers are valid.
- Service Indicator Reset
- Resets the Mercedes service ("wrench" / Service A/B) reminder. Cycle the ignition off and on afterward to confirm.
- Protection
- Before any Custom Feature runs, the app verifies the vehicle is healthy and matches your account. If the ECU is in recovery mode or the VIN does not match, the feature is blocked — flash the vehicle first if prompted.
Updating the app
- COMPORT PRO Versa checks for new versions and notifies you when one is available.
- Choose to update — the app downloads and applies the new version, then relaunches.
- Your account login, logs, and configuration are preserved across updates.
Troubleshooting
- The app will not open / no UAC prompt
- Right-click the shortcut and choose Run as administrator. The app requires elevation to access the device.
- Device shows "Not Ready" or is not detected
- Re-plug the cable directly into a USB port (no hub), run the driver install from the setup screen, and on x64 allow the driver prompt. On ARM64, simply re-plug — the built-in serial driver binds automatically.
- Voltage reads 0 V or looks wrong
- Confirm the cable is fully seated in the OBD-II port and the ignition is ON, then reconnect.
- "Vehicle not responding" but voltage is good
- Make sure the ignition is in ON/RUN (not just accessory). Cycle the ignition off and on, then reconnect.
- "Conditions not correct" / session rejected on a Mercedes-Benz
- The vehicle gateway likely re-locked after sitting idle. Click Connect again to re-authorize the gateway, then start the flash promptly.
- Account not active / not authorized
- Verify you entered the correct account email and that you are connected to the vehicle your tune was purchased for. Contact AMR support to confirm your license.
